Maple Bear Elementary School

Maple Bear Elementary School Prague delivers both the Czech and Canadian curricula through its unique blended program, with a strong emphasis on bilingual education. Our classrooms support an individualized approach in a creative environment where children learn to think critically, collaborate, and communicate effectively in both Czech and English.

Social Emotional Well-Being

Throughout their school years, children at the elementary level progressively meet many developmental milestones. With each year of school, a child faces new challenges that require the continual development of cognitive, physical and social-emotional skills.

The Maple Bear program is committed to meeting the needs of students in the areas of social responsibility and well-being by:

Language Immersion: Two Languages, One Experience

Our education is bilingual, but that doesn’t mean we teach in Czech in the morning and English in the afternoon. Both languages are naturally woven into every subject and part of the school day. Czech and English are not just school subjects, they’re tools for thinking, communicating, and understanding the world.

We don’t teach language as a separate subject, we teach in the language. At Maple Bear, both Czech and English are used as natural tools for learning, conversation, and discovery. This approach is called language immersion – students are surrounded by the language throughout the day.

They hear it, read it, see it written down, and use it in real, meaningful ways across different activities, projects, and situations. As a result, they don’t just “know” vocabulary, they use the language naturally, across all areas of learning.

We also place great emphasis on students learning academic terminology and language structures in both Czech and English. This ensures that they can understand and express ideas confidently in either language, whether they continue their education in the Czech Republic or abroad.

Learning Centres

One of the key features of our educational approach is the use of Learning Centres. Rather than relying on traditional whole-class instruction—where the teacher speaks and students listen—our students rotate between stations, working individually or in small groups on tasks that connect subjects in meaningful ways.

Each classroom includes a variety of thematic Learning Centres dedicated to specific subjects or skills, such as mathematics, science, or language arts. These centres promote hands-on, experiential learning and allow children to explore and practice concepts in tangible, engaging ways. The classroom environment plays a key role. Our rooms are set up in zones based on activity type, for example, reading nooks, science corners, or art areas. Spaces are designed to support movement, independence, and natural curiosity

Learning Centres foster independence, cooperation, time management, and a sense of ownership over one’s work. They also support differentiated learning, enabling students to work at their own skill level, often independently or with peer support. Additionally, they create valuable opportunities for targeted, small-group instruction, allowing teachers to observe students closely and adjust their teaching in real time.

Eliška Petáková

Teacher Grade 0

My name is Eliška and I am a Czech language teacher at Maple Bear School. I studied education and mathematics at the Faculty of Education. My journey in education began in the Scouts, where I led a children’s group and worked as a trainer in leadership courses. Later, I spent five years teaching in a kindergarten and also gained a lot of experience caring for children. I believe in building warm and positive relationships with children and in nurturing their natural curiosity.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, spending time with my daughter, and being with my family. I’m very happy to be part of the Maple Bear team and to accompany your children on their educational journey.
