Enrolment in primary schools will be significantly earlier this year. What does this mean for parents?

This year, parents of small preschoolers are in for a big change. The amendment to the Education Act No. 239/2025 Coll., which came into force in September 2025, brings new enrolment dates for both kindergartens and primary schools, and these dates are significantly earlier than what parents have been used to so far.

The new dates for enrolment in primary schools are from 15 January to 15 February year when the child enters the 1st grade.

This means only one thing: the time to make decisions is significantly shorter this year!

Advent time as a key period for choosing a school

While parents used to have the whole spring to visit schools, compare approaches and atmosphere, this year the situation is different.
The Advent period is becoming the most important time to get acquainted with schools and choose your favorites.

At Maple Bear Prague, we want to make this process as easy as possible for parents. It is our goal to provide all the information you need to choose a school.

Every family makes different decisions — some are clear after the first visit, others need to come several times, and others choose eight weeks in our preparation course — so we offer support in the form you are looking for; However, time flies and there are only a few Open Days left until the registration, during which you can try out our model lesson and experience a taste of how it works with us.

How are enrollments done at Maple Bear?

As a register school of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, we publish enrolments in the mentioned period, the completion of which is a formal condition for admission. In 2026, the enrolment date is January 16-17 and January 23-24.

At the same time, however, we are not a school that would test, test or expose 5- and 6-year-old children to stress.

On the contrary — our goal is to get to know the child sensitively, with respect and in an environment where he feels safe. It is important to us that children create a positive relationship with school from the beginning. Therefore, we conceive of the minutes as a natural encounter, not as a test of performance.

The enrolment itself takes the form of individual meetings between the teacher and the child, conducted in the preferred language (English/Czech), and includes an assessment of school readiness. Playfulness and a safe environment are characteristic of us.

But what is key to our records?

We got to know each family in person in advance — during an individual visit or at the Open Day. We got to know each child and took the time to make them feel welcome and safe with us.

It is thanks to this thorough preparation that the enrolments are carried out in a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, in which children are often able to show us their true potential.

Teacher Grade 0

My name is Eliška and I am a Czech language teacher at Maple Bear School. I studied education and mathematics at the Faculty of Education. My journey in education began in the Scouts, where I led a children’s group and worked as a trainer in leadership courses. Later, I spent five years teaching in a kindergarten and also gained a lot of experience caring for children. I believe in building warm and positive relationships with children and in nurturing their natural curiosity.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, spending time with my daughter, and being with my family. I’m very happy to be part of the Maple Bear team and to accompany your children on their educational journey.
