Parents who are considering the Czech-Canadian school Maple Bear Prague<\/strong> often ask about the specifics of bilingual teaching, the admission procedure and everyday functioning. We have prepared clear answers to the most frequently asked questions for you.<\/p>\n\n

1. About the curriculum and education<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

How does the combination of the Czech and Canadian curriculum work?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n

Maple Bear Prague is a fully registered school of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic<\/strong>. This means that we meet all the requirements of the Czech educational program, but at the same time we integrate world-renowned Canadian teaching methods into it. The emphasis is on experiential learning, the development of critical thinking, communication, cooperation and practical problem solving.<\/p>\n\n

What does bilingual teaching entail and how is it provided in practice?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n

Teaching takes place in a balanced way in Czech and English. Children are naturally surrounded by both languages in the form of immersion (immersion in the language). The key advantage of our concept is that there are two teachers in each class at the same time<\/strong> \u2013 one English-speaking and one Czech-speaking.<\/p>\n\n

Thanks to this close tandem cooperation between two teachers, children have constant support in both languages. It is not just about regular foreign language lessons, but about fully mastering academic terminology and natural communication skills in both languages.<\/p>\n\n

Do you also offer a program for preschoolers?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n

Yes, we offer a preparatory class<\/strong> (zero grade) ideal for children aged 5 to 6. It works as a safe bridge between kindergarten and primary school \u2013 it develops school readiness, independence and the basics of both languages in a playful way.<\/p>\n\n

At the same time, we are planning to open a kindergarten<\/a>. If we obtain the necessary permits from the next school year, the preparatory class would formally fall under the kindergarten instead of the primary school. For you and the children, this would only be an administrative change \u2013 the curriculum and the form of teaching remain completely identical. In addition, the advantage of this change would be that you would not have to deal with recommendations from the pedagogical and psychological counselling centre (PPP), which is required for the preparatory year of primary school.<\/p>\n\n

2. About enrolment<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

When does enrolment take place and what are the deadlines?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n

Enrolment in the preparatory and 1st grade usually takes place in January (for example, the official enrolment days for the upcoming period are set for 22 and 23 January 2027<\/strong>). Parents learn the results of enrolment within three days of the end of the official deadlines.<\/p>\n\n

How does the enrollment itself work?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n

The enrolment takes the form of an individual meeting between the teacher and the child, during which the school readiness and overall development<\/strong> of the child are assessed (the criteria are announced in advance in the autumn, you can find them here<\/a>). The meeting lasts approximately 30-45 minutes and takes place in a friendly and stress-free atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n

Is it necessary for the child to speak fluent English\/Czech beforehand?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n

The school welcomes children of all levels. Thanks to the immersion method, even children without knowledge of a second language<\/strong> can safely adapt during the first year under the guidance of experienced teachers.<\/p>\n\n

3. About the school’s environment, safety, and community<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

What is the atmosphere at the school and class sizes?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n

We pride ourselves on a family environment and a friendly atmosphere<\/strong> where every child feels safe and accepted. Classes have a lower number of pupils, which allows the teaching team to apply an individual approach and develop the potential of each child according to their individual needs and pace.<\/p>\n\n

In preparatory classes, the capacity is limited to a maximum of 15 pupils. From the first year, a maximum of 22 pupils per class is set, while the ideal number is to keep to 20 children.<\/p>\n\n

How is food and rest ensured during the day?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n

A full-fledged and balanced diet is provided for children in the form of two snacks and a hot lunch<\/strong>. In the daily routine, we pay attention to a balanced ratio between concentrated teaching, physical activities and rest.<\/p>\n\n

What are the school’s opening hours?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n

The operation of the school and the follow-up program are set up to fully meet the needs of working parents<\/strong>. The school opens every weekday at 7:30 a.m., when children can use the morning after-school care. Classes start at 8:30 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m., which is smoothly followed by afternoon after-school care and after-school activities. Children can spend meaningful time with us until 5:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n

How does communication with parents take place?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n

We consider parents to be key partners in education. We regularly inform you about the progress of children, the course of teaching and school events through personal meetings, consultations and digital communication channels of the school.<\/p>\n\n

How is the assessment of children and their progress monitored?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n

At Maple Bear, we emphasize formative and supportive assessment<\/strong> that does not suppress the joy of learning. The aim is to motivate children, strengthen their inner self-confidence and teach them to work with their own mistakes as a natural part of the learning process.<\/p>\n\n
